Crackberries & Facebook

by Bradley Davis on November 20, 2008

Up until the recent US elections I was not aware that the Blackberry had gained the reputation of Crackberry! Yes I have been living under a rock and it has Nokia E71 chiseled into it. A seamless and somewhat shameless plug indeed! ;)

If you are like me and had not heard how the term Crackberry came about, it is simply because of their addictiveness, hence the “Crack” term.

Bad News

Crackberry is going to strengthen its potency ten fold in early 09 with the release of a new Facebook application. This is of course terrible news for Barack Obama who is addicted to his Blackberry (source) and is a massive fan of Facebook, using it as one of his online marketing channels during the election. However the word is that he needs to give up his Crackberry with his appointment to the big house.

Good News

With the added features of the new application – to be more in line with the non phone version – Facebook marketers should be rubbing their hands together. Currently the birthday reminder application is not available for the Blackberry Facebook application. This added feature for Facebook marketers is gold! One of the main goals with any social media marketing is being accepted into a community and building rapport within that community. Wishing someone a HAPPY BIRTHDAY is a great starting point! Full article here.

Will these new Blackberry applications push Obama to the edge?

Maybe creating an alias and sneaking off in the middle of the night to get his Crackberry fix is on the cards! It’s ok Barack you can tell us, it will be our little secret! ;)

Is the integration of online life and reality past the point of no return? What do you think?

New touch screen coming out in Australia soon, I’m sure that will be more addictive than crack.

We might even consider swapping our new Nokia E71s for the new Crackberries! Only so we can tell Obama how good they are…… you know cause we get to talk to the “man” a lot! hahahaha
