Do You Shop Like A Millionaire?

How many people have dreamed of indulging in a guilt free, crazy shopping day and living like one of those millionaires? Let’s call them the Joneses. Everyone has, right? I know people who have even planned out how that day would go and what they would buy!

For most of us, the thought of spending excessive amounts of cash on luxuries is, well a luxury that we just don’t get to do as often as we would like. With the current economic conditions this dream is getting further and further from reality. Yet the Joneses seem to still have their holidays, new cars and everything else, making the rest of society feel like they have missed something.

Well maybe we have!

However, as the world economy is bouncing around like a five year old on a jumping castle, more and more people will become like the Joneses. You see, the Joneses are fantastic at saving money so they can make more money with the money they save. A recent survey has shown that the “very rich” prefer to shop online with respondents spending approximately five times more online per year than in a physical store! Full story here.

So how does this affect the rest of us?

In an effort to save money, more and more people will turn to online shopping to look for goods, just like the Joneses. This presents a fantastic opportunity for businesses (who do not currently have an online presence) to move into the World Wide Web and tap into a larger pool of consumers. Of course the same opportunity presents itself if your business is already online, as more consumers move to online shopping.

This trend will force businesses to either jump into the deep end, learning how to effectively market themselves online, or to use an internet marketing agency. These businesses should be focusing on pay per click advertising, including Facebook, social media marketing (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn etc) and search engine optimisation. When using any or all of these channels to reach the desired target market, the focus should be on improving the return on investment (ROI).
